Our present interpretation is not like this. 'Bodhisattvas transforming beings' has four divisions in the text: 1. a general indication of the transformer and the transformed; 2. from '[does] not contemplate form' below, specifically explaining the emptiness of the transformer and the transformed; 3. from 'therefore all' below, concluding the meaning of emptiness; 4. from 'this is the bodhisattva' below, concluding the essence of protection. This is the first. Regarding the four kinds of birth, as the second fascicle of the *Yogācārabhūmi* says: 'What is egg-born? It refers to sentient beings who are born by breaking the eggshell, like geese, wild ducks, and the like. What is womb-born? It refers to sentient beings wrapped in a womb and born through the rupture of the womb, like elephants, horses, and the like. What is moisture-born? It refers to sentient beings who are born depending on a causal condition of moisture, like moths, scorpions, and the like. What is spontaneously born? It refers to sentient beings who, through the predominance of karma, are born with their six sense bases complete or incomplete, like devas and beings in the naraka-hells entirely, and a portion of humans, pretas, and animals.'
