Question: The prajñā expounded in this sūtra differs across three places: 1. in the "Chapter on the Two Truths," eighty billion verses are spoken; 2. at the end of the "Chapter on Protecting the State," eight thousand billion verses; 3. in this "Chapter on Scattering Flowers," one hundred billion verses. What is the difference among what is spoken in these three places?
Answer: In the "Chapter on the Two Truths," the teachings of the buddhas of the three periods of time are spoken together, totaling eighty billion verses. In the "Chapter on Protecting the State" of the Benevolent Kings [Sūtra], the Benevolent Kings Prajñā spoken by the past seven buddhas is specifically cited. In this chapter, the Benevolent Kings Prajñā spoken by the present Buddha is set forth. Because of this, what is spoken in the three places differs.
