The commentary explains: 'In a thousand asaṃkhyeya kalpas' goes beyond the previous count. As in the earlier Yogācāra account of the three incalculable kalpas, on this ground one begins entering the third kalpa, hence it differs from the preceding. Although there are differences in the numerical counts between the earlier and later passages, the time traversed in the three kalpas does not differ. 'Fulfill one million great vows': practice and vows support each other, hence it says 'fulfill.' The perfection of vow is predominantly augmented, while the rest are practiced according to their share. 'Thought after thought entering' refers to uninterrupted cultivation. In 'the cognition of all cognitions of all modes,' the upper refers to conventional and the lower to real; moving the lower character 'cognition' to below 'modes' concludes what is entered. From here, the twelfth part explains the Good Intelligence Ground. The text has three parts as before: first, it marks the characteristics of entering the ground.
