1.84

次、修慚、愧，若有應作而不隨之，隨不應作，於䨱己惡，己可悔事隨逐不捨，應顧內身，羞恥非法，遵崇賢聖，寶重善法，修起於慚；外顧世軌，羞恥惡名，輕侮凶頑，拒憚惡法，修起於愧。

Next is cultivating shame (hrī) and remorse (apatrāpya). If there is something that should be done yet one does not follow it, or one follows what should not be done, or in concealing one's own evil one clings to what should be repented without letting go: one should look inward at oneself, feel shame at what is contrary to Dharma, revere the worthy and noble, prize wholesome dharmas, and cultivate and arouse shame; looking outward at worldly norms, feeling remorse over an evil reputation, holding the cruel and obstinate in disdain, and dreading unwholesome dharmas, one cultivates and arouses remorse.
