1.36

言教興者，自有二意，所謂悟入生、法二空。入生空者，如彼《二十唯識論》云，依此所說十二處教，謂若了知從六二法有六識轉，都無見者乃至知者，便能悟入有情無我。入法空者，即此所說遣十二處，顯法空理。清辨、護法遣法差別，如上應思。

Regarding the arising of the teaching, it has two purposes: namely, entering into the two kinds of emptiness of self and dharmas. Entering into the emptiness of self is as stated in the Viṃśikā-vijñaptimātratāsiddhi: relying on this teaching of the twelve bases expounded [by the Buddha], if one understands that from six pairs of dharmas six consciousnesses evolve, and that there is entirely no seer up to knower, one can enter into the selflessness of sentient beings. Entering into the emptiness of dharmas is this elimination of the twelve bases spoken of here, revealing the principle of the emptiness of dharmas. The difference in how Bhāviveka and Dharmapāla eliminate dharmas should be considered as above.
