Question: "Name-and-form is not pervasive; why is it established as a branch?" Answer: "It is established as a branch because it is necessary. In womb-birth, egg-birth, and moisture-birth, when the six bases are not yet complete, there is definitely name-and-form. Furthermore, the branch of name-and-form is also pervasive: although apparitional birth with form possesses the five faculties at the initial moment of receiving birth, they are not yet functioning, so at that time they are not yet called the branch of the six bases; although those initially born in the formless realm definitely have the mental faculty, it is not distinct, so it is not yet called the base of mind."
