First, 'without hindrance, there is no fear' means being far removed from all terrors. Terrors refer to the five kinds of terror, as fascicle 2 of the Buddhabhūmy-upadeśa says; the five terrors are: first, fear of lack of livelihood; second, fear of bad reputation; third, fear of death; fourth, fear of the miserable realms; fifth, fear of timidity before assemblies. Such five fears are all far removed when realizing the ground of pure aspiration.
