1.57

「伽耶迦葉」者，昔日亦是外道，其人事火，領五百徒眾住在伽耶城中，如來往化即捨邪徒正得羅漢道，仍以本所住城為名也。

"Gayākāśyapa" was also a non-Buddhist in the past. He served fire and led five hundred followers, dwelling in the city of Gayā. When the Tathāgata went to convert him, he immediately abandoned the heterodox path and took up the orthodox one, attaining the path of an arhat; he was accordingly named after the city where he originally dwelt.
