又就此四段之中各開為三。第一段中有三者：第一言「時有菩薩名曰妙光」，此先出所因人名字也。第二有八百弟子歎妙光之德，既有眷屬，顯其是可因之人也。第三是時日月燈明佛從三昧起，因妙光菩薩，此正明因人也。

Furthermore, within these four passages, each opens into three. Within the first passage there are three: first, the statement 'At that time there was a bodhisattva named Varaprabha' first sets forth the name of the person who serves as the occasion. Second, having eight hundred disciples praises Varaprabha's virtue; since he had a retinue, it shows that he was a person who could serve as the occasion. Third, at that time the Buddha Candrasūryapradīpa arose from samādhi occasioned by the bodhisattva Varaprabha: this directly clarifies the person who serves as the occasion.
