「上言詺佛教為門，今者何故此門被燒耶？」解言：「乃是詺佛教為門，不言此教被燒，但教所化眾生自是被燒，故如彼一門立大學門，云何不言兩板雙扇讀書解義耶？故知一門中人解義讀書也。」

"Above it was said that the Buddha's teaching is called the gate; why now is this gate burned?" The explanation states: "The Buddha's teaching is indeed called the gate, but it does not mean that this teaching is burned. Rather, the sentient beings transformed by the teaching are themselves burned. This is just like establishing the gate of a grand academy as a single gate; how could one say that the two planks and twin doors read texts and understand their meaning? Therefore we know that it is the people within the single gate who understand the meaning and read the texts."
