5.33

今言「在所遊方勿妄宣傳」者是第一，然勿妄之言其意難了，今且作四句明之。一言惡人莫為說，此亦是勿妄；二者惡人亦為說，善人亦為說，此亦是勿妄；三者惡人應為說，善人莫為說；四者善人應為說，惡者莫為說。今不同前三句，何故？前三句太甚通漫，故的取第四句，正惡人莫為說，善人應為說。

Now, the first is "Wherever you travel, do not recklessly proclaim it." However, the meaning of the words "do not recklessly" is difficult to understand; for now, let us explain it through four propositions: 1. Saying that one should not explain it for evil persons—this too is "not recklessly"; 2. Explaining it for evil persons as well as explaining it for good persons—this too is "not recklessly"; 3. One should explain it for evil persons, and should not explain it for good persons; 4. One should explain it for good persons, and should not explain it for evil persons. Now it is not like the first three propositions. Why? The first three propositions are too overly broad and imprecise; therefore, the fourth proposition is specifically adopted: namely, do not explain it for evil persons, and one should explain it for good persons.
