7.57

「佛告阿難汝於來世」自此下第二正授記。就授記中亦有二：第一先為阿難羅睺羅受記，第二為二千人受記。就第一中自有二：初為阿難受記，第二為羅睺羅受記。就阿難受記中自有五階：第一正為受記，第二從「爾時會中有新發意」者，見阿難得記心生疑念；第三從「爾時世尊知諸菩薩心之所念」下，明往因緣釋大眾疑念；第四「阿難面於佛前」此下明阿難因聞往昔因緣仍得宿命智；第五說偈讚嘆如來也。

“The Buddha told Ānanda: ‘You in a future age’”: from this below is second, properly bestowing prophecies. Within bestowing prophecies, there are also two parts: first, initially bestowing prophecies on Ānanda and Rāhula; second, bestowing prophecies on the two thousand people. Within the first, there are itself two parts: first, bestowing a prophecy on Ānanda; second, bestowing a prophecy on Rāhula. Within Ānanda's bestowal of prophecy, there are itself five stages: first, properly bestowing the prophecy; second, from “At that time in the assembly there were newly resolved [bodhisattvas]” onward, seeing Ānanda receive a prophecy, doubts arose in their minds; third, from “At that time the World-Honoured One, knowing what was in the minds of the bodhisattvas” onward, explaining past causes and conditions to resolve the doubts of the great assembly; fourth, from “Ānanda, facing the Buddha” onward, explaining that because Ānanda heard the past causes and conditions, he thereupon attained knowledge of past lives; fifth, uttering verses praising the Tathāgata.
