'And spoke in verse, saying' downward consists of eighteen lines of verse, which is the second part within the reply, versifying the five persons in the prose above: First, there are nine lines versifying the first person; next, there are five lines that jump ahead to versify the fourth person; next, there are two lines that go back to versify the second person; next, there is one line versifying the third person; next, there is one line versifying the fifth person above. However, within the first person above there were originally six stages; now within the nine lines it does not versify the fourth. Now, the initial one and a half lines versify the first, taking the fiftieth person in comparison. 'The last person obtains blessings'—this half line versifies the second, admonishing him to listen attentively. 'Such a great donor' downward consists of five lines, which versify the third above, adducing the two gifts of material wealth and the Dharma to question Maitreya. Since it does not versify the fourth, Maitreya's reply to the Buddha, therefore from 'the last, fiftieth' this single line versifies the fifth, the Tathāgata's concluding integration. 'Hearing it thus transmitted from one to another'—this single line versifies the sixth above, the concluding reply. 'If there is someone who encourages one person' downward consists of five lines, which jump ahead to versify the fourth person above. 'If one deliberately goes to a saṅgha dwelling' downward consists of two lines, which go back to versify the second person above. 'If at the place of Dharma exposition'—this single line versifies the third person above. 'How much more so single-mindedly'—this single line versifies the fifth person above.
