In this chapter, the matters of this bodhisattva's supernatural powers in universally manifesting physical bodies are recounted, and the chapter is named after this bodhisattva. The two chapters below form the second [part] within the guidelines for showing beings how to disseminate the sūtra, explaining that these two great beings universally manifest physical bodies to propagate the sūtra and benefit beings; this intent has already been described above. Now within this chapter it is broadly divided into six sections: first, explaining that the Tathāgata emits light to summon Gadgadasvara to come; second, from "He then addressed the Buddha Jaladharagarjitaghoṣasusvaranakṣatrarājasankusumitābhijña" below, explaining that that bodhisattva, having received the command, sets forth from the eastern direction to come to this land; third, from "At that time Bodhisattva Padmaśrī addressed the Buddha" below, directly explaining Gadgadasvara's guideline of universally manifesting physical bodies to disseminate the sūtra; fourth, from "When this Gadgadasvara Chapter was spoken" below, explaining that humans and devas in both the eastern and [this] location attained benefit; fifth, from "At that time Bodhisattva Gadgadasvara made offerings to Śākya-" below, explaining that after completing the universal manifestation of physical bodies, this bodhisattva took leave of the Buddha here and returned to the eastern direction; sixth, from "When this chapter of Bodhisattva Gadgadasvara's coming and going was spoken" below, explaining that the compiler of the sūtra recounted the contemporary assembly's obtaining of benefit upon the preaching of the chapter.
