小聞於大，恥小而慕大，是為頓資小；佛命善吉轉教，大益菩薩，是為漸資頓。

When the lesser hears the great, feeling ashamed of the lesser and admiring the great, this is the sudden supporting the lesser; when the Buddha commands Subhūti to transmit the teaching, greatly benefiting bodhisattvas, this is the gradual supporting the sudden.
