10.164

通二藏者：其一通聲聞，其二通菩薩藏。通三藏者：初通聲聞藏，次通雜，其一通菩薩藏。通四藏者：一一相通。通八藏者：八藏降神已來，四教從轉法輪已來，時節節有異，今以轉法輪來八教通之。若胎化藏、中陰藏，未為阿難說時，即是祕密教；為阿難說時，即是不定教；摩訶衍、方等藏即頓教；戒律藏去五藏，即漸教中之次第。戒律藏即三藏教，十住藏即方等教，雜藏即通教，金剛藏即別教，佛藏即圓教。然佛意難測，一往相望，作此會通（云云）。

Correlating with the two piṭakas: the first correlates with the śrāvaka[-piṭaka], and the second correlates with the bodhisattva-piṭaka. Correlating with the three piṭakas: the first correlates with the śrāvaka-piṭaka, the next correlates with the miscellaneous [piṭaka], and the remaining one correlates with the bodhisattva-piṭaka. Correlating with the four piṭakas: they correspond one to one. Correlating with the eight piṭakas: the eight piṭakas begin from the descent of the divine spirit onwards, whereas the four teachings begin from the turning of the wheel of the Dharma onwards; because their temporal divisions differ, we now correlate them using the eight teachings that followed the turning of the wheel of the Dharma. The piṭaka of the transformation in the womb and the piṭaka of the intermediate state (antarābhava), when not yet expounded for Ānanda, are the secret teaching; when expounded for Ānanda, they are the indeterminate teaching; the Mahāyāna and vaipulya piṭakas are the sudden teaching; the five piṭakas beginning with the vinaya piṭaka are the sequence within the gradual teaching. The vinaya piṭaka is the tripiṭaka teaching; the ten abodes piṭaka is the vaipulya teaching; the miscellaneous piṭaka is the shared teaching; the vajra piṭaka is the distinctive teaching; and the buddha piṭaka is the perfect teaching. However, the Buddha's intention is difficult to fathom; looking at them generally, one makes this correlation (and so on).
