I privately interpret and correlate them [as follows]: Conditioned formations are things arisen through causes and conditions, which is the meaning of the tripiṭaka [teaching]. Reprimand is realizing the nature [of things] and knowing faults and transgressions, which is the meaning of the shared teaching. As for afflictions: if one does not enter the great ocean, one cannot obtain the precious pearl; if there were no afflictions, there would be no wisdom—this is the meaning of the distinctive teaching. As for purity: since a single [term], purity, is raised as the designation, it spontaneously contains the self, permanence, bliss, and the rest, which is the perfect teaching.
