As for the indeterminate contemplation: having deeply planted good roots under past buddhas, now cultivating and realizing the twelve gates, one suddenly awakens and attains the endurance of non-arising: this is poison placed in milk that can kill people. If, through realizing the contemplation of impurity in meditation—the nine notions, the ten notions, the [eight] liberations, the [eight] masteries, the contemplation of the four noble truths of active creation, and so forth—one suddenly opens one's mind and understands, attaining the endurance of non-arising due to this dhyāna concentration: this is poison reaching coagulated milk to kill people. If someone generates the four vows, cultivates the six perfections, identifies provisionality to enter emptiness, and in the contemplation of the four truths of non-arising suddenly awakens and understands, attaining the endurance of non-arising: this is poison reaching curd to kill people. If someone cultivates the six perfections, cultivates emergence from emptiness into provisionality, and cultivates the contemplation of the immeasurable four truths, suddenly awakening in mind and attaining the endurance of non-arising: this is poison reaching refined butter to kill people. If someone sits in meditation, cultivates the correct contemplation of the Middle Way, the dhyāna of self-nature, and so forth, studies the uncreated four noble truths, and practices the four kinds of samādhi such as the Lotus and Pratyutpanna, suddenly awakening in mind and attaining the endurance of non-arising: this is killing people within the practice of ghee.
