10.84

「爾時長者將欲誘引其子，而以方便，密遣二人形色憔悴，無威德者，汝可詣彼，徐語窮子：雇汝除糞。即脫纓珞，著垢膩衣，以方便故，得近其子。」此領何義？此領次頓之後，隱舍那威德相好，作老比丘像，說三藏之教，二十年中常令除糞，得一日之價，即是從十二部後出修多羅，于時見思已斷，無漏心淨，譬如從乳出酪也。

'Then the elder, wishing to entice his son, by means of an expedient secretly dispatched two men of emaciated appearance and lacking majestic virtue, [saying]: "You may go there and gently tell the impoverished son: 'We will hire you to clear away dung.'" He then took off his necklaces and put on dirty, greasy clothes, so that by means of expedients he was able to approach his son.' What meaning does this express? This expresses that following the sudden, he concealed the majestic marks and features of Rocana, took on the form of an old monk, and expounded the teaching of the Tripiṭaka. For twenty years he constantly had him clear away dung, receiving a single day's wages—this is the sūtras emerging after the twelve divisions. At that time, [the son's] delusions of view and thought were already severed, and his undefiled mind was pure—just as from milk, curd is produced.
