They exist, but are not links. Ignorance has a cause, namely improper reflection; aging and death have a fruit, namely grief and lamentation. Furthermore, ignorance has a cause, namely aging and death; aging and death have a fruit, namely ignorance. Present craving and grasping are past ignorance; present name-and-form, the six sense bases, contact, and feeling—if these four are in the future, they are named aging and death. When it is said that feeling conditions craving, one should know it also says that aging and death condition ignorance, like the wheel of a cart, mutually causing one another.
