Regarding explaining practice by increasing to the number three, this refers to morality, concentration, and wisdom; these three are the ladder for transcending the world and the standard decorum of the Buddhadharma. The *Precept Sūtra* says: 'Refrain from all evil, / Practice all good, / Purify one's own mind: / This is the teaching of all buddhas.' All evil refers to the greater and lesser faults and violations of the seven categories of action, the marks of which are widely clarified in the *Vinaya in Five Divisions*. Such evils are prevented and stopped by morality. All good refers to the wholesome actions of the three karmas, whether distracted or tranquil, the preparatory and subsequent expedients, and the merits of the limbs and branches; all are pure and elevating, and are therefore called good. Purifying one's own mind means destroying all erroneous inversions, clearly understanding mundane and supramundane causes and effects, and the primary and auxiliary approaches to the Dharma; being able to eliminate mental defilements and cleanse all blemishes and impurities, what could surpass wisdom? In the vast ocean of the Buddhadharma, these three completely subsume all.
