今經屬圓增數，如《觀經》云：「於三七日，一心精進。」此就一法論行妙。「若行、若坐，思惟此經。」此就二法論行妙。「若聞是經，思惟修習，善行菩薩道。」此就三法論行妙。「四安樂行」，此就四法論行妙。「五品弟子」，此就五法論行妙。「六根清淨」，此就六法論行妙。如是等待麁論妙也。

The present sūtra belongs to the progressive enumeration of the perfect [teaching]. For example, the Contemplation Sūtra says: 'For three periods of seven days, single-mindedly advance with vigor.' This discusses the subtlety of practice with respect to one phenomenon. 'Whether walking or sitting, reflect on this sūtra.' This discusses the subtlety of practice with respect to two phenomena. 'If one hears this sūtra, reflects upon it, cultivates it, and skillfully practices the bodhisattva path.' This discusses the subtlety of practice with respect to three phenomena. 'The four peaceful and happy practices'—this discusses the subtlety of practice with respect to four phenomena. 'Disciples of the five grades'—this discusses the subtlety of practice with respect to five phenomena. 'Purification of the six sense faculties'—this discusses the subtlety of practice with respect to six phenomena. Such is discussing subtlety in contrast to the crude.
