Surpassing the bodhisattva stage, one then enters the Buddha stage. Using vows to sustain the remaining propensities, they are born in Jambudvīpa and accomplish the path through the eight marks. Five marks are not different from those of the tripiṭaka [teaching]; only the sixth, accomplishing the path beneath the tree, is attaining the wisdom corresponding to a single thought, which accords with the principle of the unproduced four truths, severing all afflictions and residual propensities entirely, fully endowing great compassion, the ten powers, four fearlessnesses, eighteen unshared dharmas, and all merits; this is named a buddha. Seventh, turning the Dharma wheel: with provisional wisdom they set in motion the tripiṭaka wheel of the four truths of arising and cessation; with real wisdom they teach the Mahāyāna wheel of the unproduced four truths, which is the shared teaching for the persons of the three vehicles. Eighth, the mark of entering nirvāṇa: between the twin trees they enter nirvāṇa without remainder, wood exhausted and fire extinguished, leaving relics to serve as a field of merit for all devas and humans. These are the shared stages of the shared teaching, specifically establishing these names and stages for the bodhisattva.
