4.180

佛地如前說。此佛與三藏佛，亦同亦異。同八十年，同入真灰斷也。異者，三藏因伏果斷，通佛因果俱斷。三藏一日三時照機，通佛即俗而真，照不須入也。是則用別名辨位，名異義同，猶屬通教位也。

The Buddha stage is as explained before. This buddha is both identical to and different from the buddha of the tripiṭaka [teaching]. They are identical in [living for] eighty years and equally entering the real through ashes and extinction. As for the difference: the tripiṭaka [buddha] subdues in the cause and severs in the fruit, while the shared buddha severs in both cause and fruit. The tripiṭaka [buddha] illuminates capacities three times a day, whereas the shared buddha [finds that] the conventional is itself the real, so illumination requires no entering. Thus, in determining stages by using distinctive names, the names differ but the meaning is the same; they still belong to the stages of the shared teaching.
