All who possess a mind have the marks and nature of the three paths, which are the marks and nature of the three tracks. Therefore the Vimalakīrtinirdeśa states: 'The company of afflictions is the seed of the Tathāgata.' This is what it means. If one speaks of such power and such action, it is the generation of the bodhicitta, which is the sprouting of the real nature and the others. Such a cause is the sprouting of contemplative illumination. Such a condition is the sprouting of cultivating support. Such an effect: due to the sprouting of contemplative illumination, the habituated cause is completed, bringing to fulfillment the habituated effect of prajñā. Such retribution: due to the sprouting of cultivating support acting as the conditioning cause, it brings to fulfillment the retribution effect of liberation. Because effect and retribution are fulfilled, the dharma-kāya is also fulfilled; this is the ultimate fulfillment of the three virtues, named the secret treasury. As for the sameness of beginning and end: the three tracks of the virtue of nature are latently submerged, neither vertical nor horizontal; the three tracks of the virtue of cultivation are manifested, neither vertical nor horizontal. In latent submersion, their suchness is equal, their number is equal, and their subtlety is equal; in manifestation, their suchness is equal, their number is equal, and their subtlety is equal; therefore they are called equal. They are also equal in emptiness, equal in the provisional, and equal in the middle, and so forth.
