八開麁位、顯妙位者，若破三顯一，相待之意，可得如前。即三是一，絕待之意，義則不爾。何者？昔權蘊實，如華含蓮；開權顯實，如華開蓮現。離此華已無別更蓮；離此麁已無別更妙。何須破麁往妙？但開權位即顯妙位也。

Eighth, opening the coarse stages and revealing the subtle stages: If it is breaking the three and revealing the one, the relative meaning can be as presented above. But regarding the absolute meaning where the three are identical with the one, the principle is not like that. Why? In the past, the provisional contained the real, just as the flower encloses the lotus seed; opening the provisional and revealing the real is like the flower opening and the lotus seed appearing. Apart from this flower, there is no other lotus seed; apart from this coarse, there is no other subtle. Why would one need to break the coarse to go to the subtle? Merely opening the provisional stages reveals the subtle stages.
