阿波陀那者，與世間相似，柔軟淺語。如《中阿含》長譬喻，《長阿含》大譬喻，億耳、二十億耳譬喻等，無量譬喻皆名阿波陀那。

As for *avadāna*, they are soft and accessible words resembling worldly things. Such as the Long Parable in the *Madhyama-āgama*, the Great Parable in the *Dīrgha-āgama*, the parables of Śroṇa and Śroṇa-koṭīviṃśa, and so forth—the immeasurable parables are all named *avadāna*.
