6.152

往昔結無生緣者，或已得道、或未得道，佛於分段作佛。未得道者，當處即有業生；上界向下，即有願通兩生。分別願通，如前說。橫從他土來者，即有願通；竪從方便來者，亦有願通。通教未得法身，故無應生眷屬也。

For those who formed connections through non-arising in the past, some have attained the Way and some have not. The Buddha appears as a buddha in fragmented [birth and death]. For those who have not attained the Way, there is retributive birth right in this place; descending from the higher realms, there are both volitional and supernormal births. Distinguishing volitional and supernormal is as explained before. For those coming horizontally from other lands, there are volitional and supernormal [births]; for those coming vertically from [the land of] expedients, there are also volitional and supernormal [births]. In the shared teaching, since the dharma-kāya has not yet been attained, there are no responsive kin.
