四、明法門眷屬者，此如「普現菩薩問淨名居士：父母、妻子、親戚、眷屬、吏民、知識，悉為是誰？奴婢、僮僕、象馬、車乘，皆在何所？淨名答云：方便為父，智度為母，一切眾導師，無不由此生。法喜為妻，慈悲為女，善心誠實男，畢竟空寂舍，弟子眾塵勞，隨意之所轉，道品善知識，由是成正覺。」此法門以為眷屬。若爾者，法門不同，深淺有異。

Fourth, clarifying the retinue of the Dharma-gates: This is as when 'Bodhisattva Samantadarśana asked the layman Vimalakīrti: "Parents, wife and children, relatives, retinue, officers, citizens, and good friends—who are all of these? Slaves, servants, elephants, horses, and carriages—where are they located?" Vimalakīrti answered: "Skillful means is the father, and the perfection of wisdom is the mother; from them are born all the guides of the multitude without exception. Joy in the Dharma is the wife, loving-kindness and compassion are the daughters, a good and honest mind is the son, and ultimate emptiness and quiescence are the dwelling. The disciples are the multitude of defilements, transformed at will; the factors of awakening are the good friends, through whom right awakening is attained."' These take the Dharma-gates to be the retinue. If so, the Dharma-gates are not identical, and have differences in depth.
