As for asuras, they dwell either in the rock caves on the slopes of Mount Sumeru, on the seashore, or at the bottom of the ocean. Bearing resentment toward the gods, they constantly harbor fear, taking the sound of thunder to be the heavenly drum, and the rain of dragons turns into knives and swords. If the sentient beings herein have wholesome roots from prior lives that can be stimulated when conditions are fitting, the sages respond accordingly, taming them with gentle words, so that they obtain both hidden and manifest benefits. This is the benefit of cooling upon the fruit of asuras.
