6.74

若應別教者，是用即假即中慈悲熏無記化化禪，起漸頓應：示修恒沙佛法，各各皆見，同其事業。若應圓教者，是用即中慈悲熏無記化化禪，起圓頓應：示修一中無量、無量中一，皆各各見，同其事業。如是應同正報，不可稱計，可以意知，不可以言盡（云云）。若得此意，往望漸、頓。

If responding to the distinctive teaching, this uses compassion of identity with the provisional and identity with the middle to perfume the dhyāna of non-defiled transformation upon transformation, giving rise to gradual and sudden responses: displaying the cultivation of buddha-dharmas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, with each and every one seeing and sharing in their activities. If responding to the perfect teaching, this uses compassion of identity with the middle to perfume the dhyāna of non-defiled transformation upon transformation, giving rise to perfect and sudden responses: displaying the cultivation of the immeasurable within the one and the one within the immeasurable, with all and each seeing and sharing in their activities. Responding to match direct retributions in this way is beyond reckoning; it can be known by the mind, but cannot be exhausted by words, and so forth. If one grasps this meaning and looks forward toward the gradual and the sudden:
