7.17

自有因益即果益，果益即因益，此變易因移果易意也。自有因益非增道，果益非損生，得是因果益，不得是因果益，分段報因果也。自有因益是增道，果益是損生，不得是因果益，得是因果益，習因習果也。

There is where the benefit of the cause is itself the benefit of the result, and the benefit of the result is itself the benefit of the cause—this is the meaning of the changing cause and altering result of transformational [birth]. There is where the benefit of the cause does not augment the Path, and the benefit of the result does not damage life: obtaining this benefit of cause and result, not obtaining that benefit of cause and result—this is the retribution cause and result of delimited life. There is where the benefit of the cause augments the Path, and the benefit of the result damages life: not obtaining this benefit of cause and result, obtaining that benefit of cause and result—this is habitual cause and habitual result.
