'Converging the traces and revealing the original source' concerns practice. Investigating the various practices among the traces, either one practiced practices and received prophecy from this buddha, or one practiced practices and received prophecy from that buddha, or he manifested his own body or another's body, appearing long or short, large or small according to spiritual capacity. All traces are suspended from the original source; if one integrates and converges past and present, one simply integrates the traces to reveal the original source. Although original source and traces differ, their inconceivable [nature] is one. The text says: 'Good sons! In the interim, I spoke of Dīpaṃkara Buddha and others, and furthermore said that they entered nirvāṇa; all such things were distinctions of expedient means.' This is precisely the meaning of converging the traces and revealing the original source.
