Abiding in the original source and employing the traces: that is, being unmoved in the original ground, yet the traces pervade the dharma realm; not being born, he manifests birth; not being extinguished, he manifests extinction; constantly using these traces to benefit and moisten sentient beings. This meaning is based on the master. If based on the disciples, they are dharma-kāya bodhisattvas who, by means of non-abiding dharma, abide in the original ground; having provisionality free of calculation, the function of their traces is inexhaustible. The text says: "Furthermore, good sons, the dharmas of all the Buddhas, Tathāgatas, are all like this; for the sake of saving sentient beings, they are all real and not false." The Buddha disperses and responds to all conditions; the text is slightly out of order, and is now cited here to verify the meaning, completely quoting the text of the chapter on "Lifespan".
