If one applies this dharma across the teachings of the five flavors: the milk teaching preaches both natures and marks of the bodhisattva realm and the buddha realm. Some enter identical to the provisional and so on, or enter identical to the middle and so on; entering the middle is indeed unsurpassed, but because it carries along one expedient, it is not completely unsurpassed. The curd teaching only clarifies the marks and natures of the two vehicles, obtaining entry into analytical emptiness and so on; it does not yet clarify entry into identical to emptiness and so on, so how much less the rest! Therefore it is not unsurpassed. Raw curd clarifies four kinds of marks and natures: either entering analytical emptiness and so on, or entering identical to emptiness and so on, or entering identical to the provisional and so on, or entering identical to the middle and so on. Only the Buddha's marks and natures obtain entry into identical to emptiness, identical to the provisional, and identical to the middle; yet because it carries along three expedients, it is not unsurpassed. Cooked curd clarifies three kinds of marks and natures: either entering identical to emptiness, or entering identical to the provisional, or entering identical to the middle. Only the Buddha's natures and marks obtain entry into identical to emptiness, identical to the provisional, and identical to the middle; yet because it carries along two expedients, it is not unsurpassed.
