Fourth, clarifying the stage of attainment through vision: when one who practices according to Dharma shifts into the path of cultivation, they are called 'attained through vision'. This is a person of sharp faculties who, by their own merit of wisdom, sees phenomena and attains the principle; hence they are called 'attained through vision'. This person, on the path of cultivation, sequentially realizes the three fruitions and leaps over the two fruitions, just as differentiated under 'understanding through faith'. The only difference is that, being of sharp faculties, without relying on hearing the Dharma and without depending on external provisions, they are able on their own to see phenomena and attain the principle. Attainment through vision has only an immovable fundamental disposition. If they realize the fruition of anāgāmin, they also have the distinctions of five, seven, and eight kinds of parinirvāṇa.
