Fifth, clarifying the stage of bodily realization: again, it is the two persons of understanding through faith and vision-attained who enter the path of cultivation, use untainted wisdom to sever the lower and higher fetters, and give rise to the four dhyānas and the four formless concentrations. That is, using shared stations of mindfulness, they cultivate the eight liberations, the eight stations of mastery, and the ten stations of totality, entering the nine sequential concentrations. Having previously severed both the phenomenal and essential hindrances of the three emptinesses, they further sever the phenomenal hindrances of neither-perception-nor-non-perception, extinguish all mind and mental factors directed at the principle, and enter the concentration of cessation. Because they attain this concentration, they are called bodily-realized anāgāmins. Why? Entering the concentration of cessation resembles the phenomenon of nirvāṇa, settling it within the body and tranquilizing all toil of the three realms. Through the body they realize the cessation of perception and sensation; hence it is called 'bodily realization'.
