The realm of existence among asuras uses the samādhi of delight. Asuras have much suspicion and fear; thus there is suspicion and fear from evil karma, suspicion and fear from views and thoughts, suspicion and fear from sands of dust, and suspicion and fear from ignorance. To destroy these suspicions and fears, the bodhisattva cultivates various practices: cultivating the precepts destroys the suspicion and fear from evil karma; cultivating dhyāna concentrations subdues the fear from views and thoughts; cultivating the wisdom of arising and non-arising destroys the fear from views and thoughts; cultivating immeasurable wisdom destroys the fear from sands of dust; and cultivating uncreated wisdom destroys the fear from ignorance. Because views and thoughts are destroyed, the samādhi of delight in the empty Dharma is consummated; because evil karma and sands of dust are destroyed, the samādhi of delight at seeing all sentient beings is consummated; and because ignorance is destroyed, the king samādhi of delight is consummated. Through their fundamental practices and compassionate vows, they subtly perfume the dharma realm. If among those asuras there are spiritual capacities and conditions that engage their loving-kindness and compassion, by the power of the king samādhi they go to respond without stirring from the dharma-nature, manifesting the appropriate body and preaching the appropriate Dharma. For those with a capacity for goodness, they respond through the bodily loving-kindness and compassion of holding the precepts, causing them to leave the fear of evil karma; for those with a capacity to enter emptiness, they respond through the loving-kindness and compassion of arising and non-arising, causing them to leave the fear of views and thoughts; for those with a capacity to enter the provisional, they respond through immeasurable loving-kindness and compassion, causing them to leave the fear of ignorance; and for those with a capacity to enter the middle, they respond through uncreated loving-kindness and compassion, causing them to leave the fear of fundamental ignorance. Having realized the three delights oneself, one causes others to be free from the three fears; therefore it is called the 'samādhi of delight.' The above are all names established on the basis of counteragents.
