Sixth, regarding real stages versus non-real stages: If the gate of existence explains severing the views and thoughts within the realms, defining the stages of the thirty minds, and severing the views, thoughts, and ignorance beyond the realms, defining the stages of the ten grounds, with ignorance completely severed at the final mind of equal enlightenment, and the permanent fruit of wondrous enlightenment lying beyond encumbrances without further task—this takes the causes of another tradition to be the fruits of one's own; these are all expedient, non-real stages. The latter three gates are broadly similar with minor differences, and all are characteristics of the distinctive four gates.
