If the gate of existence, from the initial aspiration onward, applies the three contemplations in a single mind to sever delusion within the realms and perfectly subdues ignorance beyond the realms, defining the stages of the ten faiths, progressing to generate true wisdom, and perfectly severing the views, thoughts, and ignorance beyond the realms, defining the stages of the forty minds, with ignorance permanently exhausted at the final mind of equal enlightenment, and wondrous enlightenment beyond encumbrances—this is the stage of ultimate reality, and the same applies up through the other three gates; this is called the characteristics of the perfect four gates. Furthermore, whether the distinctive gate speaks of real stages and the perfect gate speaks of unreal stages, or the distinctive gate realizes real stages and the perfect gate realizes unreal stages, before or after, all are distinguished as before (and so forth).
