「道俗」等者，百高座為道，百官為俗。「玄悟法華圓意」者，五義釋經，統收五味，故名為玄。非兼非帶開廢諸典，名為圓意。

'Clergy and laity' and so forth: the hundred high seats were the clergy, and the hundred officials were the laity. 'Profoundly awakened to the perfect meaning of the Lotus Sūtra': explaining the sūtra through the five meanings and統 unifying the five flavors is called 'profound'. Neither combined nor appended, opening and discarding all scriptures, is called the 'perfect meaning'.
