昔於台嶺，隨諸問者籤下所錄，不暇尋究文勢生起，亦未委細分節句逗，晚還毘壇，輒添膚飾裨以管見，然所記者莫非述聞兼尋經論，但識用暗短而繁略頗馴，呈露後賢敢悕添削。

Formerly at the Tiantai peak, following the questions of various people, I took notes down on slips of paper. I had no leisure to examine the arising and progression of the phrasing, nor did I scrutinize the divisions and pauses in detail. Late in life, upon returning to Pitan, I rashly added superficial embellishments to supplement them with my humble view. Yet what is recorded here is entirely an account of what was heard combined with consulting the sūtras and treatises; but because my intellect is dull and narrow, and the conciseness and verbosity are somewhat uneven, I present this to future worthies and dare to hope for additions and corrections.
