From "deluded about the path of nirvāṇa" onward, it clarifies that after transmigrating, they took pleasure in the Small Vehicle. Just as when a person is lost and takes east for west, both east and west are lost. The three virtues and nirvāṇa are inherent right in the principle; thinking that the principle is distant, they turned their backs on the Great and grasped the Small, so that they were deluded about both Great and Small. Thinking the Great to be distant is being deluded about the Great; thinking the Small to be the ultimate is being deluded about the Small.
