Within this lifetime they will definitely attain it without doubt, just as when a superior person stumbles and falls on flat ground, looking far in all four directions, when there is no other person who sees them fall, they are immediately able to rise on their own; even at the point of approaching death, they still attain [the state of] non-learning. When a person who attains the concentration of cessation practiced the nature and common mindfulness stations while in the cause, upon reaching the fruition they are called merely a person liberated in both ways; because they did not practice conditional mindfulness, they are ultimately not an unhesitatingly liberated one. "Knowledge of exhaustion" means seeing that suffering has been severed, and so on up to the path also being like this. "Knowledge of non-arising" means no longer severing anything further. "Equable view of non-learning" refers to attaining worldly knowledge, also called conventional knowledge. The Vibhāṣā states: "Completing what was to be done is called knowledge of exhaustion; arising from the cause of non-learning is called knowledge of non-arising. Furthermore, attaining what was previously attained is called knowledge of exhaustion; attaining what was never previously attained is called knowledge of non-arising." It also states: "Being subsumed by the path of liberation is called knowledge of exhaustion; being subsumed by the path of superior progress is called knowledge of non-arising." It also states: "Knowledge of exhaustion belongs to five kinds of arhats; knowledge of non-arising belongs to only one kind, namely the unshakable." This is based on faculties, without discussing the path of liberation and so forth. Furthermore, "equable view of non-learning" means all arhats have this view equally; knowing oneself to have attained the fruition of an arhat is a view they possess in common, hence it is called equable view. "Double emptiness samādhi" refers to the samādhi of the emptiness of emptiness, the samādhi of the signlessness of signlessness, and the samādhi of the uncommittedness of uncommittedness; emptiness is a holy dharma, and further cultivating emptiness strikes at the preceding holy dharma, hence it is called "double." "Śramaṇa" (shamona): shamen here means lacking, and na here means path.
