次「並」意者，宗是因果，亦可示他名化他，宗亦應俱取化他因果自利利他，何故簡他唯取於自？答意者，化他因果非一乘宗，是故不取。並意者，因果屬宗，何不亦以化他因果，共為經宗而利於他？答意者，宗屬自行唯求佛果，尚不取自行化他，況以化他因果而自行耶？以化他邊即屬用故。

Next, the meaning of the further challenge: The central theme is cause and effect, and can also be demonstrated to others, which is called converting others; the central theme should likewise take both the causes and effects of converting others to benefit oneself and benefit others; why exclude others and take only oneself? The meaning of the answer is that the causes and effects of converting others are not the central theme of the one vehicle, and therefore are not taken. The meaning of the challenge is: Since cause and effect belong to the central theme, why not also take the causes and effects of converting others together as the sūtra's central theme to benefit others? The meaning of the answer is: The central theme belongs to one's own practice, seeking only the Buddha-fruit; it does not even take converting others within one's own practice, so how much less could it use the causes and effects of converting others for one's own practice? For the aspect of converting others already belongs to function.
