In the metaphor, "fuel" is like the cause, and "smoke" is like the fruit. The conclusion can be understood. Next, regarding the perishing of fruits, there are two: explanation and conclusion. In the explanation, "wisdom" is the fruit of habit, and "body" is the fruit of retribution. Wishing to reduce the body to ashes, one must extinguish wisdom; while fruit-bondage remains, wisdom is also not extinguished; therefore, in accordance with each other, both fruits are extinguished. Initiating contemplation is like the path; the two extinguishings are like cessation. This speaks of cessation in terms of the expedient devices of the Small Teaching; the Great Vehicle is not like this.
