而迦葉將隱密上天禮佛髮，為諸天說法云：「為善生天，為惡入淵，五欲無常，如花上露，見陽則晞。」於是別去。諸天泣歎曰：「里巷窮酸，苦厄羸劣，貧窮孤露，彼恒矜愍，今捨滅度，誰復覆護？（云云）」

Then Kāśyapa, about to conceal himself, secretly ascended to heaven to venerate the Buddha's hair relic and preached the Dharma for the devas, saying: "Those who do good are born in heaven; those who do evil plunge into the abyss. The five desires are impermanent, like dew upon a flower: when they see the sun, they evaporate." Thereupon he took his leave. The devas wept and lamented, saying: "To the poor and destitute in the lanes and alleys, those who suffer distress, are frail and weak, impoverished and forlorn, he has always shown pity. Now that he has renounced [the world] to enter extinction, who will protect us again?" (and so forth).
