約教論神通者，依四禪十四變化，依觀練熏修十一切無漏事禪，能作十八變，此即初教中神通。依空起慧，以空慧心修諸神通，即通教中神通。次第依三諦習得神通，展轉深入過於二乘，即別教神通。依於實相所得神通，不以二相見諸佛土，從真起應不動真際遍十法界，是則圓教神通（云云）。往昔曾助辟支佛，剃頭、浣染、縫袈裟，發願得神通（云云）。

Explaining supernatural powers according to the teachings: Those based on the four dhyānas and fourteen transformations, and based on the pure worldly dhyānas of contemplation, refinement, permeation, cultivation, and the ten universal bases, which are able to perform the eighteen transformations—these are the supernatural powers in the Initial Teaching. Arising from wisdom based on emptiness, cultivating various supernatural powers with a mind of wisdom of emptiness—these are the supernatural powers in the Shared Teaching. Progressively relying on the Three Truths to practice and attain supernatural powers, step by step penetrating deeper and surpassing the Two Vehicles—these are the supernatural powers of the Distinctive Teaching. Relying on the Real Mark to attain supernatural powers, viewing all Buddha lands without dual characteristics, giving rise to responses from the true without moving from the true limit to pervade the ten dharma realms—these are the supernatural powers of the Perfect Teaching (and so on). In the distant past, he once assisted a pratyekabuddha by shaving his head, washing and dyeing, and sewing his kāṣāya, making a vow to attain supernatural powers (and so on).
