As for "Kapphina" (Jiebinnā), this is translated as "Chamber Constellation" (pronounced xiu). His parents prayed to the Chamber Constellation and were moved to conceive a son; hence they used the Chamber Constellation to name his physical body. When this bhikṣu first went forth and had not yet seen the Buddha, he set out toward the Buddha's location. Encountering rain at night, he lodged in a potter's chamber, using straw as a seat. Later in the evening, another bhikṣu also seeking lodging came following behind. The former bhikṣu pushed straw over to give to him and sat on the ground. In the middle of the night they asked each other, "Where do you wish to go?" He replied, "To seek the Buddha." The latter bhikṣu then preached the Dharma for him—the words can be examined in the Āgama—and he suddenly attained the Way. The latter bhikṣu was none other than the Buddha himself. Lodging in the same room (pronounced su) with the Buddha, he came to see the Dharma body. Named after the place of attaining the Way, he is therefore called Kapphina. Vaiśravaṇa held a parasol and followed behind [Kap]phina; Vaiśravaṇa is the lord of constellations, and since the lord served him, the stars and constellations did likewise. This bhikṣu was skilled at astrology and clearly understood stellar charts; named according to his understanding, he was called Kapphina. The Ekottarika-āgama says: "Among my disciples in the Buddha's Dharma, the bhikṣu Kapphina is foremost in being skilled in knowing constellations, sun, and moon."
