1.18

今不安五義者，本門非次首故也。迹門但單流通者，說法未竟也，有無之意云爾。今帖文為四：一、列數；二、所以；三、引證；四、示相。

The reason the five meanings are not established here is that the origin gate is not the very beginning of the scripture. That the trace gate has only a single transmission is because the preaching of the Dharma is not yet finished; such is the intent behind the presence and absence [of these sections]. Now, the text is arranged into four parts: first, listing the numbers; second, explaining the rationale; third, citing evidence; fourth, demonstrating the characteristics.
